What mice are afraid of: folk remedies and methods of destruction

what are folk remedies afraid of mice
What mice are afraid of folk remedies

Hello! A couple of months ago I had to deal with one problem. I woke up at night from a mouse squeak.

For me, this was a complete surprise, because before that, rodents in the house were not observed. Apparently, there was a small nest already there.

I did not want to spend time on chemicals or undermining floors. I decided to resort to grandmother's wisdom. Calmly, without dust and noise, I got rid of rodents. Want to find out what mice are afraid of, what folk remedies can be used? Then we begin to study the details.

How to scare away mice from home with folk remedies?

What are mice afraid of, and how to get rid of them with folk remedies? Unlike insects, rodents are quite intelligent animals, easily avoiding various traps, and they often develop immunity to some toxic substances.

Important!
Not everyone can keep a cat and mouse cat in the house, so folk remedies come to the aid in the fight against rodents.

The sensitivity of mice and rats to pungent odors and sounds has long been known. How to get rid of mice in the house, given this feature? First of all, you need to understand the causes of pests in the house and the consequences of this invasion.

The appearance of mice in the house: causes and consequences

To attract mice into the house can only be the availability of food that is within reach: open bags with cereals and flour, nuts, seeds and bread. Dirty dishes and food debris on the table, garbage not delivered on time can also cause pests to enter the living room.

Mice are thermophilic animals. With the onset of cold weather, they tend to penetrate into warm places near a person. If the house is warm and dirty, there is something to profit from, and you can easily get into the room, rodents will not keep you waiting.

The appearance of mice or rats in the house poses a threat to the physical and mental health of a person, so you need to get rid of them immediately, without waiting for the pests to multiply and settle seriously and for a long time.

Damage from rodents can be very significant:

  1. They are carriers of many dangerous diseases, such as plague, cholera, typhoid, etc.
  2. Many things in the house are gnawed and spoiled: shoes, clothes, furniture.
  3. Mice can gnaw electrical wires. This causes a short circuit and damage to household appliances.
  4. Rodents infect water and spoil foods that cannot be used after them.
  5. The smell that appears as a result of their life is very difficult to get rid of.

Having noticed traces of the presence of mice in the house: black pellets of feces, gnawed foods and things, an unpleasant smell - you should immediately begin to hunt and remove pests, otherwise the problems will only increase.

What mice are afraid of: ways to destroy

How to get rid of mice and bring rats out of the house? First of all, it is necessary to create unbearable conditions for them to stay in the house.

Advice!
This may be the use of repellents and toxins that affect pests with a pungent unpleasant odor or have a nerve-paralytic effect that causes paralysis and death. When using them, a person may experience an allergic reaction, so this method is not suitable for everyone.

A good result is the use of ultrasonic repellers that negatively affect the psyche of rodents, expelling them from the premises. These devices have long been deservedly popular, they are always on sale and are suitable for different conditions (in city apartments and cottages).

The range of the devices allows you to drive pests even from garden plots for 7-10 days. The only drawback is their high cost.

Rodents have always lived close to humans, therefore, over a long time of coexistence, people have come up with many ways to get rid of rats and mice using improvised tools available in the house.

Folk remedies

Rodents do not tolerate the smell of many odorous plants; therefore, herbs such as chamomile, peppermint, tansy, feverfew, marsh rosemary, wormwood and night blindness (black root) can be used to control them.

In the corners of the room, you can lay out small bunches of fresh or dry herbs, or prepare a decoction of them and spray all the possible habitats of pests. Wormwood can also fumigate the room.

Elder. When rodents appear in the garden, you can plant an elderberry on its edges. Hydrocyanic acid secreted by the plant will scare away pests.

Bay leaves. If you wet the bay leaves in ammonia or vinegar and spread them in different secluded corners, near the crevices and mouse minks, rodents will quickly leave the room, unable to withstand an unpleasant odor.

Red pepper. A good remedy is ground red pepper, which should be poured in the suspected pest sites or in the detected minks. Sniffing him, they are unlikely to want to return.

Attention!
Essential oils. To eliminate uninvited guests, you can use not only odorous plants, but also essential oils from them. Their hoods have a high concentration and quickly cope with the problem.

The cloth moistened with them or cotton swabs should be laid out around the house in the favorite places of rodents. It is important to remember that people suffering from allergic diseases need to be extremely careful.

Glue traps. At home, a popular way to control pests is to use mechanical and glue traps in which the bait is laid (a piece of lard or bread soaked in vegetable oil).

A trap in the form of a trap in which the mouse dies is considered not a very humane method, so it is better to use special cells and, after capture, release the mouse away from home.

Rodent control in non-residential premises

How to remove rats folk remedies from non-residential premises? Often pests appear in basements and in garden areas where there is no constant presence of people. In this case, you can use various poisons and toxins, quickly eliminating rodents. There are special smoke bombs or fodder sulfur on sale that, when burned, emit gas that is poisonous to pests.

Instead of purchased products, you can use the available home remedies: burnt tires, naphthalene, old Soviet colognes or kerosene. Residential premises cannot be processed with many of these funds, but they are quite suitable for basements and non-residential areas.

One should not forget about the necessary protective measures when processing premises with these means: wear gloves, a mask and glasses. After processing, the room should be tightly closed, and then well ventilated a few days later.

For effective protection and prevention from the possible occurrence of pests, a few simple rules should be followed:

  • Do not store products in the public domain;
  • close all the cracks in the house and seal the water supply and sewage pipes;
  • close the ventilation holes with a fine mesh;
  • take care of cleanliness in the house, periodically conducting wet cleaning and taking out accumulated garbage.

Having noticed parasites in the house, one should not postpone their destruction, hoping that they will leave voluntarily. Every day their number will only increase, causing more and more problems.

Therefore, armed with traps and improvised home remedies, you should quickly get rid of rodents and live in a clean comfortable house.

How to get rid of mice in the house folk remedies

If you have got mice in the house, then you must certainly fight them. A mouse can be a serious danger to humans, just like a rat, spreading dangerous diseases. In addition, it can do much harm, as these little rodents actively eat potatoes and other products in your cellar.

But if you do not want to use chemistry and are more adherent of traditional methods of struggle, then it's time to use folk remedies to exterminate unwanted parasites.

Signs indicating the presence of rodents

In order to begin a systematic and active struggle with mice, you must first make sure that they really are in the house. The following symptoms may indicate this:

  • in the walls under the floor there are small holes with scraps of plain paper;
  • stale air. The specific smell of a mouse cannot be confused with anything;
  • litter is often found on the floor, under furniture, or in the corners of the room - small black dots;
  • various rustles, creaking and squeaking in the walls and under the floor, which are heard not only at night, but also during the day;
  • if there is a cat in the house, then by its unusual fussy behavior, you can understand that the mouse is close. Although cats behave in the presence of otherworldly forces, this is a completely different story.

Alternative methods against mice

What do mice fear more than anything else? That's right, cat. Most people think so, but this is far from a proven fact.

Cats do not always express a desire to catch mice, because not every domestic cat retains the instinct of a hunter to the extent that it is laid in nature. She has no reason to hunt, because the owner regularly feeds, and the first why animals hunt is hunger.

Important!
Only large adult cats can bring at least some benefit and expel mice with their appearance. Kittens are good for nothing, and if for the sake of these goals they borrow a cat from acquaintances, then the animals will simply close themselves in an unfamiliar house and will hide in the corners, rather than catch a mouse.

In her own house, she, perhaps, will make attempts to somehow frighten the mice, but in a stranger she’s definitely not.

Mousetraps, beloved by all, are also practically useless. Mice rarely walk alone, and even if they do, then twice in one mousetrap will not hit several mice, but only one. Yes, and constantly check whether the mouse hit, and if not, then re-start everything. Tiring, isn't it?

It is here that the good old, accumulated over the years, folk methods against mice come in handy.

Basic folk remedies

Ash. In the fight against mice, ash is excellent. It can be scattered around the perimeter of the room, near the baseboards. Ash can cause severe allergies in mice, and the point is not that they don’t like the smell or the appearance of ash is unpleasant.

When the mouse runs around the house, the ash sticks to its paws, and then when washing it licks it. The taste of ash is so disgusting to them that they run away from a country house or from an apartment.

Plants. Mint will effectively help get rid of a rodent in a private house. The mint smell is also disgusting to mice, as is ash, so you can put mint leaves around the perimeter of the room or brush the baseboard with peppermint oil.

True, this effect is short-lived, and each time you have to repeat the procedure. You can use black root, if there is no mint on hand.

Food bait. The method is rather sadistic and monstrous, but incredibly effective. To do this, mix the chopped glass, poison, gypsum, wax or cement into small pieces of food, and then put them in the places where holes appear in the walls.

Advice!
Mice will begin to die in huge quantities, but this method has a number of limitations, because of which it is extremely undesirable to use it at home. It may happen that this "surprise" is eaten by your cat, or worse, your child.

Then there will be no time for jokes. Yes, and the mouse does not die immediately, and you can never predict where it will give up the spirit. Therefore, soon the house may be filled with the smells of cadaveric fumes, with which nothing can be done.

Some technical methods

Ultrasonic repellers are quite convenient and easy to use, so they have gained great popularity.

Their essence lies in the fact that such a device produces the strongest ultrasound, dangerous for mice and other rodents (as well as moles), but completely harmless to humans.

If you do not want to engage in mousetraps, traps, covering the walls with mint or sprinkling ash on the floor, then it's easier to use such a thing. It is quite easy to use and absolutely does not need any kind of control.

True, the likelihood that the mouse will immediately leave is not a wholly-owned one, but it’s still worth a try to say for sure. Indeed, as one catch phrase says, in war all means are good.

Prevention

In order for the mice to no longer come or to exclude the possibility of their appearance for the first time, the following requirements must be observed:

  • install grilles on all ventilation inlets and outlets available in the house;
  • plug and seal all cracks and holes in the walls and floors;
  • all products that may be in use, and which are already in it, stored in a special plastic bowl.
  • clean regularly and do not litter. Mice smell good, and the dirt in the house is the first sign that you will soon have “guests”.

Observing these simple rules, you can protect your home from the invasion of a small pest, but there is no absolute guarantee that the mice will definitely not appear. Their appearance is much more expected with the onset of cold weather, however, the preventive measures described above will help to prevent them from entering the house.

How to get rid of mice in a private house

It got colder outside, and with the cold a terrible problem appeared. Crowds of mice rushed into houses, apartments.

Attention!
They penetrate homes by all means. These small gray and cute rodents create a lot of trouble: they spoil the equipment, furniture, gnaw the wiring, leave droppings in food, suffer various dangerous infections. And in the rooms there is a specific smell that impregnates clothes, bedding.

A loud rustling in the evenings and nights makes you crazy! What to do, how to get rid of mice in a house or apartment? We have collected for you the most effective methods of combating mice and rats.

But first, let's look at the reasons that brought intruders into your home.

First, mice run into the heat. Rodents move from cold rooms to apartments - this is natural. They can settle over the stretch ceiling, in the walls, under drywall, and sit under the bathroom.

Secondly, the mice need to eat something and they encroach on your food. The food left on the table in the cabinets, like a magnet attracts mice. The height of the furniture for rodents does not matter: they can climb onto the refrigerator, in a cabinet located at least one and a half height from the floor.

They easily go down the walls. So remove the leftover food, brush the bread crumbs on the table, carefully sweep the floor, take out the trash. And be sure to close up the holes in the skirting boards, put the grilles in the ventilation ducts.

Mice must be disposed of. Remember that they multiply rapidly. For example, one pair of rodents per year can produce 60 animals. Consider several ways to get rid of rodents.

Modern means

Ultrasonic agent for rats and mice. An ultrasonic device is often advertised on TV. They say that this device is absolutely harmless to people and pets. Its effect is that the device makes an unpleasant sound to the mice and they voluntarily leave the house.

Attention!
The ultrasonic repeller works very simply. It makes sounds that are completely safe for people and their pets, and rodents instantly run away from home as far as possible.

Your hearing simply does not accept ultrasonic waves, and the mice feel uncomfortable and in danger, so they quickly leave the area where insidious sounds are heard.

Chemical preparations from mice and rats

"Bactorodencid." This preparation contains cereals infected with bacteria. When a mouse eats poison, they become ill with typhus and die. It is believed that the drug is harmless to humans. But there is a chance that pets will decide to taste the “product”. Use with caution.

"Rat death." This is also poison. The bait is laid out at a distance of 2 - 15 meters in places where there are usually mice. You need to be as careful as possible with this drug: sachets cannot be opened or touched with your hands without protection. When the mice disappear, collect the bait and burn.

Professionals will help. Professionals treat the premises with pesticides. I must say, this is a dangerous way to get rid of rodents. It is possible to poison if you violate the rules of staying indoors.

Folk remedies

Bottle. You can catch mice using a regular bottle. Take a bottle (glass, plastic), grease it inside with sunflower oil, put the bait and set the bottle at a slight degree tilt. Leave the neck open. Leave it overnight. In the morning you can count the mice. Believe me, there will be many of them there!

Yummy. Mix 200 g of sugar, 300 g of flour, 500 g of gypsum and place on saucers in the house. Mice will eat up “goodies” forever! However, if you have cats and dogs in the house, do not risk it with a treat.

Important!
An effective remedy for mice in a private house - a mousetrap Effective method! Put pieces of lard, sausage, white bread as bait or sprinkle cat food (they love him very much and drag it right from the bundles left somewhere in the corner).

By the way, keep in mind that mice don’t really like cheese - it’s checked! The rodent will smell the aromatic smell of the bait and will certainly go inside the mousetrap, and the mechanism behind it will work successfully.

Glue. You can buy glue for mice. Apply a thick layer of glue to the cardboard. The rodent, having decided to taste the product that you previously put in the center of the cardboard, will get stuck in the thick of glue and will not be able to get out.

Get a cat. The cheapest way to get rid of mice is to get a cat. Absolutely safe option. Unless a mouse poisoned by neighbors comes to your house.

Chlorine, bay leaf, vinegar, herbs. Pour bleach into the mouse passages. Mice cannot stand this smell - be sure: they will leave right away!

Spread mint around the house and the mice will bypass your home. Bay leaf or cotton wool moistened with vinegar, laid in cupboards, will also block the way for rodents. You can also put elderberry, dried chamomile, black root, tansy, wormwood. These smells also can not stand the mouse.

You can rub the baseboard with red pepper. Cruel, but in the fight against rodents, all methods are good.

Ash. Not like rodents ash. Sprinkle it in the places where the mice walk.They will not want to walk on it and will leave your house.

How to get rid of the smell of a dead mouse

You do not need to have supernumerary to understand that a mouse has died somewhere. When her corpse decays, the apartment has an unbearable smell, which can not be avoided.

Advice!

Tea tree oil. A wonderful tool in the fight against unpleasant odors is a mixture of water and tea tree oil. Dissolve a couple of drops of tea oil in water. And then rinse the rag in this water and wash the pier.

Citrus. Arrange sliced citrus-peeled plates in the rooms. Zest absorbs odors and gives off essential oil, which will give the home a special aroma.

Pomanders. Stick a few cloves (seasoning) into the pulp of an orange. Hang pomanders or put them in rooms. The aroma is enough for a couple of weeks. And then change to new ones.

Cat litter. Fill the sock with cat-like filler and hang in the rooms. The bags absorb bad odors.

What mice are afraid of: folk remedies in the fight against small rodents

All the main methods aimed at getting rid of rodents can be conditionally divided into two types: chemical and mechanical. By the mechanical method is meant the use of a frame mousetrap capable of killing mice one at a time.

Important!
In this regard, the chemical method is several times more effective and allows you to destroy entire populations in just 4-5 days. However, statistically the most preferable is still the method of pest control using folk recipes.

Moreover, most of them not only are not inferior to industrial ones in terms of efficiency, but also have significant advantages:

  • Safe for the health of the inhabitants of the apartment and pets, unlike chemicals that pets or a child might inadvertently try.
  • Humane - animals bypass the house, and do not die under the floor or baseboard, from which an unpleasant odor then emanates for a long time.
  • They cost cheaply - most folk recipes involve the use of improvised means that can be found in any housewife.

The convenience of the methods below is confirmed by the fact that anyone who previously had no experience in exterminating rodents can use them.

Smells

The vast majority of domestic pests, including house and field mice, do not like pungent odors, which is what chemical manufacturers use for disinfestation and disinfestation.

A safe alternative to industrial products that emit toxic fumes that are afraid of mice can be certain types of plants.

It is proved that rodents will not live in an apartment where branches of odorous herbs are spread in the corners:

  • elderberries;
  • wormwood;
  • milkweed;
  • blackcurrant;
  • hazel grouse;
  • peppermint.

It is necessary to constantly update the laid out branches, since as they wilt, the intensity of their effect on mice decreases rapidly. Another disadvantage of this method is seasonality, and the peak of rodent invasion occurs in the cold season, when odorous herbs are no longer found.

Therefore, as an alternative to the hostess's plants, a number of the following spices are used:

  1. coriander;
  2. basil;
  3. Bay leaf;
  4. pepper;
  5. cloves.

It is enough to sprinkle a small amount of coriander grains or dry bay leaves in places where mice caught the eye - and harmful rodents will start to bypass them, and soon they will completely leave the house.

Sounds

A relatively effective way is to eliminate pests using sounds. It is believed that parasites will avoid noisy dwellings in which the automatic machine is constantly washing, the dishes are rattling or the vacuum cleaner is working.

Advice!
But today there are hardly any housewives who initially do not use household appliances, and the constant operation of the audio system will scare away not only mice, but also neighbors.

Common house pests really can not tolerate some sounds, which led to the creation of specialized devices with ultrasound that are not perceptible to the human ear. Such means of disinfestation are not inferior to the national ones in terms of safety for the residents of the house, but their effectiveness remains open to question.

Do-it-yourself traps

The assembly scheme of home mousetraps is quite simple. Examples of such facilities are:

Inverted bowl. Round glass dishes of any size are quite suitable for a trap. The bowl is put upside down, a piece of chocolate or cheese is attached to the inner edge. A coin is placed under one edge of the dishes to open the mouse entrance. If the animal is interested in the bait, the balance of the structure will be disturbed, and the mouse will be under a bowl.

Bottle trap. The neck is cut from a plastic bottle, and the edges are shaped as sharp petals. At the bottom of the bottle, a bait is placed, and the "petals" are bent into the structure. The mouse easily enters the trap, while sharp edges prevent it from getting out.

Deep container. Rodents do not jump too well, as they do not know how to climb steep, smooth walls. Given this fact, you can come up with a trap from a 10-liter plastic bottle, an empty deep bucket or a 40-liter aquarium.

Food is placed at the bottom of the container and the trap is placed in places where pests appear, for example, in a cabinet with a bin. Nearby should be placed something like steps so that the mouse could climb into a trap.

Improvised mousetraps work no worse than purchased ones, but the drawback of this method remains the same - no more than 1-2 mouse individuals can be eliminated.Given the size of the average population (about 150 individuals), annoying the residents of the house, this does not solve the problem.

Other tricks

The crushed ash, which is scattered in the corners or in places of frequent appearance of uninvited guests, has successfully proved itself in the fight against mice. In the country, with the onset of winter, floors in the basement or in the pantry are covered with ashes.

Attention!
Getting on the paws of rodents, ash causes severe irritation, as a result of which the skin is injured and, as a result, interferes with their movement. Such a tool quickly expels pests from home.

Another trick against parasites is to lay out dry snake feces in all the alleged openings where uninvited guests come from. However, this product is rare, and you will have to look for it in the city zoo or terrarium.

It is also possible to get rid of the problem by eliminating the sources of the appearance of domestic parasites. To do this, all discovered holes in the floor and walls are barricaded with furniture, covered with putty, and blown with foam sealant. This method also brings results.

The main thing is to try to make sure that the rodent is not trapped, otherwise it will easily bite itself a new path near the old hole.

Cat

One of the most traditional means of combating mice for many has been and remains a cat, the mere presence of which in the house scares off rodents. As scientific observations show, one such hunter catches about 60 mice per year.

Acting according to instincts, the cat controls the entire territory on which it lives, and does not miss the chance to profit from the rodent even when it is already full. Such a natural method of getting rid of pests can hardly be called humane, but cats do not pose a threat to human health.

However, not everyone can keep a hunter in an apartment. The reasons for this may be some individual characteristics of the inhabitants of the house:

  • allergic to the enzyme found in cat saliva;
  • allergy to dust, pollen, mold and other pathogens that the cat brings on its coat from the street;
  • pregnancy, in which toxoplasmosis is dangerous, which the cat can become infected from mice.

According to veterinarians, these reasons need not necessarily become an obstacle to the maintenance of a mustached hunter.

To eliminate the manifestations of allergies, it is enough to regularly bathe and comb the cat, and pregnant women should less contact with the animal to reduce the risk of toxoplasmosis. Daily wet cleaning and frequent ventilation of the room also helps.

Prevention of occurrence

To avoid the appearance of rodents, it is enough to follow simple rules:

  1. Keep products not intended for the refrigerator in inaccessible places: in cans, glass containers and other containers.
  2. Cover the bin with a lid.
  3. Dry and wet clean the kitchen floor regularly so that there are no crumbs or other food debris left on it.
  4. Monitor the cleanliness of pet feeders, try not to leave food in them.
  5. With the onset of cold weather, clog all cracks in the house, do not leave doors and windows open.
  6. Close ventilation ducts and sewers with metal mesh.

It is important to observe preventive measures not only to prevent the invasion of small pests, but also immediately after their removal, otherwise the rodents will return quickly.

What folk remedies will help get rid of mice in a private house?

If rodents appear in the house, it is impossible not to notice this. At first, the owners pay attention to the night sounds that were not previously in their home - it can be a rattle, rustling or squeaking.

Important!
But since mice and rats reproduce very quickly, they soon become visible to the naked eye and not only at night.

It is imperative to deal with uninvited guests, as they only bring harm to a person, and their proximity is quite dangerous for health.This can be successfully done with the help of folk remedies, and in the future it is necessary to observe preventive measures to prevent the re-emergence of rodents.

Why do rodents appear and why are they dangerous?

In a private house, the likelihood of mice appearing is much higher than in an apartment in an urban high-rise building. This is facilitated by the presence of wildlife around people's homes, and calmer, quieter conditions that are necessary for rodent habitation. The main factors due to which rodents can appear in the home:

  • cooling in the autumn period (mice begin to look for a new warm dwelling, since the air temperature in the street drops significantly);
  • depletion of food supplies (in the cool season, rodents have nothing to eat on the fields and they migrate to living quarters or domestic buildings near them, where you can always find some leftover food);
  • relocation from neighbors (when mice appear in one of the houses, they can soon spread to all the dwellings that are nearby due to the high speed of offspring and an increase in their number).

Any food leftovers, crumbs, or storing crops and seeds in poorly closed containers will result in mice and rats. They perfectly smell, their sensitivity is several times greater than the sense of smell of a person.

They also have excellent hearing and try to hide wherever possible. The survival rate of rodents is very high due to excellent adaptation mechanisms to different conditions.

But to bring out the mice that appeared in the dwelling is necessary, although sometimes this is not easy. The fact is that rodents not only cause unpleasant emotions with their appearance, but can also carry very dangerous diseases (leptospirosis, cholera, typhoid and even plague), they can bring other pests to ticks - ticks and fleas.

In addition, they spoil stocks of food, gnaw holes in home furniture and carry dirt.

Plants help drive rodents away

There are several herbs that mice are afraid of smell and therefore means based on them are very popular in the fight against harmful rodents. They can be laid out in the places of the burrows of mice, on shelves of cabinets and any other surfaces.

Potential moves of rodents can be sprayed with decoctions from some plants and tinctures; dried stocks can be used to transfer grain stocks in bags in outbuildings near the dwelling.

Advice!
Mint branches can be laid out in all places where rodents may appear or have already been seen. They are scared away by the smell of mint, although on the contrary it is pleasant for a person and acts relaxing, this plant also helps prevent the appearance of some harmful insects (moths and ants).

Chamomile flowers can be safely used to fight mice. Their smell for humans is completely neutral, but very unpleasant for rodents, so you need to decompose dried or fresh flowers of this plant wherever food is stored.

Rodents do not like the smell of tomato tops; it can be crushed to more strongly isolate the aroma and put it in the garden and on approaches to the dwelling. For the same purpose, you can use tansy.

Due to its pungent odor, it is better to use the plant on the street, and not inside, so that people themselves do not breathe it. You can expand the stems and branches of tansy near all available slots and entrances to the house and on the land.

Dried thorns of burdock can be used as a mechanical tool, which is laid out on all possible approaches to housing. It will be very difficult to overcome such an obstacle for rodents due to pain.

If you plant a black elderberry near your home, then the mice will leave this territory and will no longer return to it. The fact is that the roots of this plant secrete hydrocyanic acid, which is a strong poison, and rodents feel it. And elderberry branches can be used to tie fruit trees (apple trees and pears), the bark of which mice also sometimes like to eat.

DIY traps and decoys

In order to get rid of rodents, you can use mechanical traps and food bait mixtures, which are easy to prepare yourself.

You can make a trap from a pot and support. On the inner wall of the container with adhesive tape at a height of 5 cm, you need to fix the bait (this can be a piece of cheese, bread or lard). In this case, the pan should be ajar thanks to the support on one side, so that the rodent can climb inside and try to get food from its wall.

Attention!
At the moment when the animal tries to eat food, the wall of the tank will move from its support and fall to the floor, and the rodent will be inside. It is important to select a container of heavy material so that the pest cannot turn the pot over and get out into the wild.

Another option for catching rodents may be a bucket of water and bait. Water is poured into a deep bucket, and a board or piece of thick cardboard is installed obliquely above it, at the end of which there should be food-bait.

Making his way to food, the rodent will throw this board into the water and drown. You can also use stretched thin paper over the surface of the water onto which food is poured. When you try to eat the bait, the animal will also be in the bucket due to the thin paper that has fallen there.

A mixture of gypsum and flour is considered one of the most effective rodent lures that can be prepared without difficulty and at a particular cost. The components are taken in equal proportions and mixed together.

In all corners of the dwelling place trays with vegetable oil are placed on which this mixture is poured, and a plate with water is set next to it.

Rodents smell the sunflower oil, eat this flour with gypsum, after which they are thirsty and they drink water. Because of this, their stomach ceases to function, since the mixture swells and freezes inside their body and blocks the digestive system, and soon the mouse or rat dies.

Alternative methods

It is noticed that in the human home where the cat lives, there are practically no rodents. This is due to the fact that this pet has a pronounced hunting instinct. Contrary to different opinions, the breed and color of the pet do not matter much.

The main thing is that the animal should not be lazy. But even in this case, rodents, smelling a cat in a dwelling, are most likely afraid to settle there, because they feel danger at a subconscious level.

Important!
If rodents are wound up in utility rooms, they can be effectively expelled from there with the help of ash. It must be scattered on the floor, if it gets on the paws of rodents, it causes irritation and the animals have to lick it.

The ash reaction is highly alkaline, it has a detrimental effect on their body, which leads to scaring away pests. The disadvantage of this method is that a lot of dirt remains from the ash that rodents carry on the surface of their paws.

After successfully getting rid of rodents, it is important to ensure that no food remains are left anywhere, all the garbage is safely hidden in the garbage cans with a tight lid, and all possible cracks and holes in the house are sealed. This will avoid a repeated invasion of rodents in the home.

  1. I don’t quite agree with the author of the article on the use of herbs to scare away mice. We live in a cottage in the countryside, every autumn and winter we fight with tailed guests and in the house and sheds. She put dried tansy, wormwood, chamomile. Not afraid, toothy. But a mousetrap and our cat is effective ways. Our cat Komosh catches a mouse and brings us a report. In the induced mousetrap, there is always a surprise in the morning. This works.

  2. At home, a cat copes with mice at my place, but at work, these pests overcame. I have a lot of expensive equipment, I'm afraid that they would not ruin the wires.Yes, and a disgusting smell. I was advised to buy glue, it turned out to be an excellent thing. It is easy to use, non-toxic, odorless and does not lose its qualities for a very long time on a ready-made trap. The truth with this method of catching the mouse slowly dies, so that it is squeamish I do not advise.

  3. Our cellar with supplies of potatoes, beets and carrots is avoided by the mouse. Every summer I tear the stalks of burdock with ripe spikes and spread them along the walls of the barn and cellar. Then I tear open the burdock's head and sprinkle it on top of tubers and root crops. Surprisingly, domestic cats stopped running into the barn for the mice, because they simply are not there.
